Presented by the Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre (SHNC), the annual Surry Hills Festival has become one of Sydney's premier inner city events.
Supported by the generosity of key corporate sponsors, artists & entertainers and the local Surry Hills community, the Surry Hills Festival attracts up to 90,000 people annually and showcases both established and up-and-coming performers, artists and designers. Running since around 2000, the Festival celebrates the eclectic style of the local community via music & arts performances, a massively popular dog show, kids' activities, stalls, eco and much more.
Applying is simple, all you have to do is jump on the Surry Hills Festival website www.surryhillsfestival.com and fill out the submission form. Music submissions should also include a copy of your most recent CD or demo.
The Surry Hills Festival has showcased some of Australia’s finest musical acts – Bluejuice, Lanie Lane, Jinja Safari, Jonathan Boulet and Tin Sparrow over the past 12 years.
Festival Director Matt Grant says all styles of music are welcome.
“From folk to indie, roots to reggae, electronic to funk, world music to hip hop and soul to blues the Surry Hills Festival has a place for everyone.”
Each year the Festival is produced by the Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre (SHNC) and is the major fundraiser for the Centre’s community services. Money raised will go back into the Surry Hills community funding services such as childcare and community development projects and classes.
The Festival returns to the newly restored Prince Alfred Park, in spring this year which has been provided to the Festival free of charge by the City of Sydney, who have supported the Festival since inception.
For the first time the centre has appointed the team behind Peats Ridge Sustainable Arts and Music Festival, The Festival Company (TFC) headed by Grant – to produce the Festival.
The new creative injection into the Festival is sure to invigorate arts, music and culture lovers throughout Sydney.
Grant says his vision is to further contribute to the diversity and creativity of the Surry Hills Festival and support the aims of the SHNC,
"Surry Hills is home to some of Sydney’s most creative personalities. We’re aiming to deepen the Festival’s capacity to showcase this creativity, with a huge and eclectic array of musicians, artists and designers.”
“An incredible line-up of art installations, theatre, markets, adventures and fun for furry friends are all in the works,” he says.
