Or at least you wouldn't if you were browsing the average ad-supported website whose (unfortunately) primary concern was directing your attention at the flashing banner ad on the right. Actually you won't find one here – Local Smile doesn't do banner ads.
People just don't like them, they distract from the content which any content creator worth his or her salt would hope is the real reason you were consuming their post/picture/video.
Anyway, back to the original point. Apple – ever the perceptive bunch that they are – have made de-cluttering web content a major feature across their platform.
It's an emphatic statement that the existing unspoken arrangement between content creators (say, me), content consumer (erm, you) and those that pay for it to be free (let's say, Holden) just isn't working out long-term.
Good riddence. Banner ads suck anyway.
Incidentally, check out Instapaper if you regularly read blogs/magazines and want to skip the cruft.
Also look up AdBlock Plus on Chrome and Firefox. It's a plugin that does a fantastic job of blocking ads in your daily browsing. You won't recognise some of the sites you visit when they're not plastered with the latest offering from the newest dating website around. Unless you're looking for a date online.
