Mayoral battle planned for HSV Nationals

MORE than 100 Holden HSV and HDT vehicles are set to take over the Willowbank Raceway on July 15 as part of the HSV Nationals. Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale said the event was coming to Queensland for the first time and the city looked forward to welcoming members of the organising HSV Owners Club of Queensland. "We are thrilled that they have been able to wrestle this event from Victoria and bring it to South-East Queensland, and particularly Ipswich, this year," Cr Pisasale said. "Events such as this are wonderful drawcards to the region and something which Ipswich City Council is always keen to support." Hosted by the HSV Owners Club of Queensland, the nationals will run from July 13 to 15. The first two days of the HSV Nationals will feature a show and shine at the RNA with the final day to be held at the Willowbank track. In the lead-up to the event, Cr Pisasale today issued a special challenge to Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk. "I have invited Cr Quirk to take part in the Battle of the Mayors and race me down the Willowbank strip in a HSV on July 15 "We will be holding this race as part of the family fun day being held at Willowbank. "I think I will be extremely hard to beat on my own turf and look forward to testing the mettle of Cr Quirk behind the wheel." The family fun day at Willowbank will feature celebrities and V8 supercar stars racing down the quarter mile. The HSV Owners Club of Queensland has 254 Queensland members and is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
