In 1993, Alan & Janette Probyn, who now operate Rockin' back to the 50's at Brisbane, brought the concept of Just Rock from Melbourne . Ferdi & Betty van de Wetering headed up a group of foundation members to get the club going, along with some input from our sister club, Just Rock Brisbane. JRI originally met at the Booval Bowls Club, had a period at Briggs Road Rugby League Club, before returning to Booval Bowls Club now renamed Swifts Sports Club. JRI hopes to remain at Booval, as the venue is ideal.
The Club has over 200 financial members living mostly in the Ipswich, Brisbane & Toowoomba areas and is a charter member of the Queensland Rock'n'Roll Association. JRI has outlasted many other Rock'n'Roll clubs which have set up in Ipswich or near-by and we are proud to be part of the Ipswich Community. Infact JRI actively participates in a range of annual community events.
The Patron of the Club is the previous Mayor of Ipswich, Mr. John Nugent & current Mayor Paul Pisasale
There are many benefits arising from JRI membership, the club conducts numerous events where concessions are provided to its members. Events include: Rock and Roll dance lessons on Monday nights 7.30pm - 9.30pm, Monday night social dances on the 3rd Monday of each month, Saturday night dances all of which are held at Swifts Sports Club, Green St Booval, Family Sunday car cruises and other classic car events, an Annual dinner dance, Back to '63, Classic Car Show & Shine, Dance demonstrations, Participation in Ipswich community parades & festivals, Classic car concessional registration.
Many of the events also cater for members' guests and the general public.
Being a social club, JRI has an annual general meeting, where a new committee is elected to run the club for the ensuing year. This is a great opportunity to influence how the club is run and make a valuable contribution in one of the many committee positions available.
The Committee welcomes all feedback. Member participation is always sought and encouraged to operate Just Rock Ipswich.
