IPSWICH FESTIVAL SET FOR A GIANT STREET PARADE IN 2012

THE 2012 Ipswich Festival street parade will receive a major boost this year from a free 10 week giant puppet making workshop to be held in the Ipswich Mall from February 23 until April 21.

Festival organisers are seeking schools, artists, passers-by and anyone who wants to be a part of this year’s parade to create their own puppet masterpiece.
Ipswich Events Corporation Executive Chairman Paul Casos said the festival was always looking for new and creative ideas to keep family favourites like the street parade a must-see event.

“We are very excited about the new dimension puppet making workshops will give the parade to be held on May 5, the second weekend of the festival.
“The parade theme this year is Tales of Discarded Treasure.

“All entrants are encouraged to take on the theme of recycling as much as possible in their float entry.”  Mr Casos said with the announcement last week of two election dates, some key events within the festival had been moved, however the festival dates remain unchanged.

“The 2012 Ipswich Festival will run from April 25 to May 6 as planned.

“All the around town activities such as the QT Arts Awards, exhibitions and Civic Centre shows remain as scheduled.

“The Street Parade, Carnival Capers, and Top of Town Street Party will now be held on May 5.

“Let’s put Ipswich on the map by creating a real ‘wow’ factor for the street parade.

“The Ipswich Festival is now one of the biggest festivals of its type in regional Australia.

“Ipswich Events Corporation is proud to partner with Ipswich City Council, sponsors, local media and the community to present such a lively, culturally diverse and engaging program of events,” Mr Casos said.
