Superbikes face off at Q Raceway

Australia’s hottest motorcycle racing action returns to Queensland Raceway on the weekend of Saturday June 4 and Sunday June 5 with Round 5 of the QBE Insurance Australian Superbike Championships (ASBK).

The first of two rounds to be held at Q Raceway in the 2011 series shapes up as a spectacular weekend of two-wheel skill, with nine categories on show.

Categories competing include: Superbike, Prostock, Supersport, Superstock, Superlites, Superside (sidecar), Supermoto RR and Supermoto S1 and S2.

Queenslanders will be treated to the unique crossover style of the Yamaha Australian Supermoto Championship, which has been included in the ASBK rounds at QR and Philip Island. The class proved a success with spectators at last year’s Queensland event, prompting organisers to expand its involvement. The Supermotos bridge the gap between road and off-road racing, with the S1 and S2 classes racing on both bitumen and dirt, on a custom-built track, utilising natural and man-made jumps.

The battle for the 2011 Championship is hotting up, with a number of riders still able to snatch the title. Victorian Glenn Allerton holds a comfortable lead with 189 points at the halfway point of the season, but his fellow Victorian Troy Herfoss (130 points) and Queenslander Ben Attard (129) lie within striking distance if anything goes amiss with Allerton’s BMW S 1000 R.
